Rwandans Community in China Commemorate National Heroes Day
On 1st February 2026, the Rwandan community in China joined togehther at the Embassy to mark the National Heroes Day for for the 32nd time under the theme “Heroism and Unity for Rwanda's Development."
In his remarks, Ambassador James Kimonyo called on the community to uphold the heroic values of Rwanda’s national heroes as they strive to contribute to the country’s development. He emphasized that integrity, patriotism, sacrifice, and humanity should guide their conduct wherever they are, urging them to spare no effort in safeguarding the country’s image and in building the Rwanda We Want through the acquisition of new skills in their studies and professional work.
Rwanda’s Defence Attaché to China, Col Janvier Mujaribu, reflected on the enduring legacy of Rwanda’s heroes, highlighting the selfless sacrifices made, often at a young age, by those who set aside their studies and personal comfort to confront genocide ideology. He underscored the responsibility of the current generation to carry this legacy forward as the nation continues its journey of reconstruction and development.
Speaking on behalf of the youth, Ms. Justine Birakoreka echoed these messages and called for sustained commitment to the spirit of heroism. She encouraged young Rwandans to play an active role in national development wherever they reside, in alignment with the National Strategy for Transformation (NST2) and Rwanda Vision 2050, stressing that today’s youth are the leaders of tomorrow who will shape Rwanda’s future.
