Rwandans and Friends of Rwanda in China Celebrate Kwibohora 32

The Embassy of the Republic of Rwanda in China was joined by officials from the Government of China, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of international organizations, Rwandan Community in China and friends of Rwanda to celebrate the 32nd Anniversary of Rwanda's Liberation (Kwibohora 32).

Celebrated under the theme "Rwanda's Journey Continues," the event was an opportunity to showcase Rwanda's remarkable transformation over the past three decades and highlight the future perspectives for the continued socio-economic development.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador James Kimonyo highlighted the historical significance of Liberation Day, emphasizing that it is not merely a commemoration of military victory, but also a celebration of the extraordinary resilience, determination, and vision that enabled Rwanda to rise, rebuild and thrive guided by the visionary leadership of H.E. President Paul Kagame.

He paid tribute to the heroes and heroines who fought courageously and selflessly, some of whom paid the ultimate price to liberate our nation and expressed deepest appreciation to foreign individuals and countries who stood with Rwanda during this struggle.

"Over the last three decades, Rwanda has made tremendous progress in good governance and democratic governance, justice, security, gender equality, education, universal health coverage, the fight against corruption, and the empowerment of women and youth, among other areas. These achievements have been guided by three fundamental choices: Unity, Accountability, and Thinking Big," the Ambassador stated.

The Ambassador expressed appreciation to partner countries and international organizations for their steadfast friendship and invaluable contributions to Rwanda's development journey and particularly highlighted the excellent bilateral relations between the Republic of Rwanda and the People's Republic of China, which this year marks 55 years of diplomatic ties.

On behalf of the Chinese Government, Ambassador Liu Xianfa, the Special Representative of the Chinese Government on African Affairs, praised Rwanda’s transformation in the last three decades.

“Rwanda, the Land of a Thousand Hills, has a long history and rich culture and hardworking and intelligent people. Over 30-plus years, with the strong leadership of President Paul Kagame, the Rwandan government and people have achieved national reconstruction in a short period of time, and sustained rapid economic growth, blazing a unique path of governance and development. China sincerely wishes Rwanda ever greater success in realizing its Vision 2050,” he noted.

He also highlighted the strong bilateral relations between the two countries, stating that, “under the strategic leadership of President Xi Jinping and President Paul Kagame, China and Rwanda are advancing side by side on the path toward modernization. The China-Rwanda comprehensive strategic partnership has made steady progress, cooperation in agriculture and road among other areas keeps making new headways.”

The celebration featured a video highlighting Rwanda's transformation journey over the past 32 years, alongside musical performances and traditional dances.
