Ambassador James Kimonyo Visit Changshu for Textile and Garment Cooperation

From 15th to 16th May 2023, Rwandan Ambassador to China, H.E James Kimonyo paid a visit to Changshu, a county-level city in Jiangsu province to strengthen bilateral exchanges and trade cooperation between Rwanda and Changshu in textile and garment industries.

He was welcomed by Mr. Han Huayi, Municipal Deputy Party Secretary and Deputy Mayor of Changshu, who gave background of Changshu’s textile and garment industry.

According to Mr. Han Huayi, the city of Changshu has been relying on strong industrial base, superior business environment and good entrepreneurial atmosphere. Citing example, he said that the city has taken the development of e-commerce economy as the key measures to promote industrial transformation & upgrading and foster new growth drivers for foreign trade. It is hoped that both sides can carry out more in-depth cooperation in the field of textile and apparel trade, become deeply bound strategic cooperative partners, and facilitate the establishment of high-quality Rwandan agricultural products in China.

Ambassador James Kimonyo expressed gratitude to China for its enduring assistance to Rwanda. He emphasized that his visit is intended to foster stronger bonds of friendship between Rwanda and China, with Changshu serving as the initial platform for forging collaborative partnerships with more Chinese cities. I extend a sincere invitation to enterprises in Changshu to invest in Rwanda, establish factories, companies, and facilities, and bolster economic and trade cooperation while pursuing mutual development.

As part of the visit, the two sides signed a jointly project to establish the "Rwandan Products Live Streaming Base in China." This initiative will integrate with Changshu's thriving live-streaming e-commerce sector and create a fresh avenue for marketing Rwandan agricultural products via Changshu's official live-streaming selection center.
