Ambassador Kimonyo Commended China – Africa Energy Partnership
On 22nd, August 2023, the Embassy attended the inaugural project promotion conference of energy cooperation under the China-African Union Energy Partnership organized by the African Union Permanent Mission to China and the China Renewable Energy Engineering Institute under the theme: “Sharing African Energy Development Opportunities, Promoting Pragmatic Cooperation for Africa-China Energy Projects”.
Representatives from various African countries, the Chinese government, and energy-related companies gathered to discuss how to enhance Africa-China cooperation, leverage energy opportunities in Africa, and share best practices in overcoming critical challenges.
During the conference, Rwanda’s Ambassador to China, H.E. James Kimonyo shared Rwanda's energy development programs policies and significant contributions made by China to African countries' universal access to electricity. Specifically, he commended China's provision of financing for projects, project execution by Chinese companies, and technology transfer.
“With Africa's abundant natural resources and the partnership between China and the African Union, we can overcome infrastructure gaps and achieve our objectives,” the envoy asserted.
The participants emphasized the importance of private sector investment in the energy sector in Africa and the need for partnerships between Chinese companies and African countries to achieve sustainable energy development.
The conference highlighted the importance of renewable energy sources in achieving sustainable development in Africa and called China to transfer more advanced renewable energy technologies to African countries.
