Chinese Investors Presented with Potential Investment Opportunities in Rwanda
The Rwanda Development Board (RDB), in partnership with the Embassy of Rwanda in China organized roadshows in the three cities of China, Changsha, Shanghai and Beijing.
The roadshows aimed at promoting Rwanda as a gateway to Africa and showcasing investment opportunities available in Rwanda to Chinese potential investors and tourists. The roadshows took place at the margins of the third China Africa Economic and Trade Expo held in Changsha, Hunan Province held from 29 June to 2 July 2023.
During the roadshows opportunities for partnership and investment in different sectors were showcased and discussed. Information on incentives given under Rwanda new investment code, ‘Manufacture and Build to Recover Program’ was shared.
The Ambassador of Rwanda to the People's Republic of China, H.E James Kimonyo emphasized the excellent relations between the two countries, highlighting the increasing trends in bilateral trade and investment flows. “The Rwanda-China roadshow plays a significant role in fostering closer ties between the business communities of both countries. Undoubtedly, this is an appropriate moment to strengthen economic exchanges, ensuring a sustainable post-pandemic economic recovery”.
Desire Rusatira, the Head of Reinvestment and Investor Aftercare Department at RDB said that “the Rwanda – China roadshow is happening at right time, when the trade cooperation between both countries has achieved a significant milestone and continues to grow. We are here to build on the existing partnership and create more platforms such as these roadshows to collectively share insights and opportunities that will enhance trade and investments between our two countries.”
Rusatira was echoed by Divine Nakanyange, the Export Marketing Analyst at RDB, who said that the investment environment in Rwanda offers business friendly regulation, an efficient supported process, commitment to foreign ownership and multiple incentives for exporters and priority sectors. Chinese investors are encouraged to consider investing in Rwanda in the sectors of their choice.
China remains one of Rwanda's largest trading partners. Last year, Rwanda Development Board registered investments worth US$182.4 million from China, indicating a notable increase of 31.2% compared to the previous year. This fact underscores the fruitful outcomes of the partnership between the two countries.
