Diplomats and Experts in China Hosted in a Commemorative Event
On 2nd April 2024, the United Nations Resident Coordinator together with the Permanent Representative African Union to China and the Embassy co-hosted an event themed “Reflection on the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi; Lessons Learnt and the Imperatives of Collective Responsibility to Protect".
The event provided an opportunity to diplomats & experts working in China to stand together and draw lessons from Rwanda's tragic history with the goal of fighting genocide ideology, denial, and hate speeches, as well as preventing future genocides and ensuring peace around the world.
In his remarks, Ambassador James Kimonyo shared the journey that Rwanda embarked on 30 years ago. He emphasized the importance of reconciliation, forgiveness, and effective leadership. He also urged everyone to join the fight against hate speech and genocide denial hence creating a better and peaceful world.
