Kigali and Hunan Sign a Letter of Intent to Establish Provincial-Level Friendly Relations
On 29th July 2021, the City of Kigali and Hunan Province of the People’s Republic of China signed a Letter of Intent on the Establishment of Friendship Relationships. The signing of this Letter of Intent is aimed at further promoting people-to-people friendly exchanges as well as economic and trade interflows between the two sides.
The agreement was signed the City of Guangzhou, on the behalf of City of Kigali, the Letter of Intent was signed by Rwanda’s Ambassador to China, James Kimonyo, while on Hunan side, was signed by the Vice Governor of Hunan Province Dr. He Baoxiang.
Speaking during the event, Ambassador James Kimonyo said that the signing of this letter of intent is another milestone in the relations between Rwanda and China, which were established 50 years ago. He added that the City of Kigali looks forward to deepen cooperation with Hunan Province in various sectors including investment, trade, science and technology, health, tourism and education among others.
The Vice Governor of Hunan Province Dr. He Baoxiang said that said that the signing of this Letter of Intent will further propel the cooperation between Hunan and Rwanda and show positive significance. We hope it will enhance the people-to-people exchanges between two places, especially culture, economic and trade exchanges.
“I believe this cooperation will further promote mutual beneficial and win-win results. Hunan hopes it can contribute to the development of Rwanda with concerted effort with governments and businesses from both sides,” Baoxiang noted.
Rwanda has a special relationship with Hunan Province, not just with the Government, but also with the people, and the enterprises of Hunan who in recent years have been establishing business ties with Rwandan companies in investment and trade.
Rwanda is looking forward to participate in the 2nd China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo in September, following the successful participation in the inaugural event in 2019.
