Rwandan Community in Beijing and Neighbouring Cities Celebrated Kwibohora29

On 4th July 2023, the Rwandan Community in Beijing and neighbouring cities together with friends of Rwanda came together to celebrate the 29th anniversary of Rwanda’s Liberation Day that took place at the premises of the Embassy.  Along the side-lines of the celebrations, a football game between Beijing and Tianjin diaspora also took place.

Liberation Day is commemorated annually on 4th July, marking the day the Rwandan Patriotic Army stopped the Genocide against the Tutsi in 1994.

In his remarks, Ambassador James Kimonyo emphasized the importance of remembering the sacrifices and heroism demonstrated by the Rwandan Patriotic Army, who tirelessly fought to liberate the country.

Today, we are celebrating numerous achievements accomplished over the past 29 years, such as unity and reconciliation, the establishment of a democratic government, development, social welfare progress, women empowerment and many more.

"We pay tribute to the RPA Inkotanyi, who fought tirelessly for the liberation of our nation, with some paying the ultimate price," the Ambassador said.

The envoy further emphasized that the journey of liberation is continuing, it is now the responsibility of the younger generation to carry forward the vision of the country. “You should follow in the footsteps of those who liberated the nation and work diligently to contribute to the country's progress and protect the achievements that have been attained.”

The Ambassador also highlighted the significant role of China's support throughout Rwanda's journey of transforming into a prosperous and inclusive nation. Over the past 52 years of bilateral relations, China has consistently stood by our side, providing valuable assistance in our national transformation.

Earlier in the day, a business forum that attracted 140 companies from Beijing was held at the Embassy. The business forum aimed at promoting Rwanda as a gateway to Africa and showcasing investment opportunities available in Rwanda to Chinese potential investors and tourists.
