Rwandan Exporters Set to Participate at the 2024 China International Import Expo
From November 5th to 10th, 2024, Rwandan companies will participate in the 7th China International Import Expo (CIIE) at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai hosted by the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China, the World Trade Organization, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, and the International Trade Center.
CIIE is an international exhibition event that was established by China in the context of opening up its market to the rest of the world.
Since its inaugural event in 2018, Rwanda has consistently participated in the expo, significantly increasing awareness of Rwandan products to the Chinese consumers and buyers as well as investment opportunities. This has resulted in boosting trade volumes. Total export values were 39 USD million in 2018 and reached 131.2 USD million in 2023. In terms of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), China has been Rwanda’s top source of foreign direct investment over the past five years.
According to Rwanda’s Ambassador to China, H.E. James Kimonyo acknowledges the crucial role CIIE has played in strengthening trade ties with China. It is an important initiative that reflects China's commitment to opening-up and participation in the global economy.
Our participation in the China International Import Expo is not just about showcasing our products; it’s about building strong bridges for lasting partnerships and opening more doors for Rwandan businesses in one of the world's largest markets.
Many Rwandan companies especially those involved in the Agribusiness are set to participate in the 2024 CIIE and a number of investment deals are expected to be secured during the expo.
In addition to showcasing these products, Rwandan officials led by Hon. Prudence Sebahizi, the Minister of Trade and Industry will take the opportunity to engage with Chinese investors, presenting a wealth of investment opportunities, tourism in Rwanda through forums, live streaming, roadshows and side meetings that are scheduled to take place.
