Rwandan Products Gain Access to the Chinese Market through eWTP

On Friday, 26 June 2020, the Embassy of the Republic of Rwanda in China Rwanda together with Alibaba’s Hema Fresh organized a live streaming event promoting Rwandan chili. The event was part of the ongoing online promotion of Rwandan products in the Chinese market.

These promotional events are being organized as part of the continued online promotion of Rwandan products in China through the Electronic World Trade Platform (eWTP) Agreement between the Government of Rwanda and Alibaba Group.

During the event, Rwanda’s Ambassador to China H.E. James Kimonyo thanked the Government of the People’s Republic of China for the cooperation in e-commerce and Alibaba Group for the eWTP partnership. He added that Rwanda appreciates the fruitful cooperation with Hema Fresh, which is helping Rwandan farmers to export chili to China, and looks forward to increase exports of agricultural products through eWTP.

The eWTP partnership with Alibaba which was renewed last year is helping to develop digital economy in Rwanda, allowing Rwandan companies to participate in global trade and promoting tourism. Last week, Ambassador Kimonyo and RDB's Chief Tourism Officer, Mrs. Belise Kariza joined Visit Rwanda live show on Alibaba's online tourist booking platform, Fliggy as part of the 618 Chinese Mid-Year Festival to introduce Rwanda’s tourism attractions. About 130 thousand viewers were elated to know that tourism activities in Rwanda have resumed and hope to Visit Rwanda.
