Rwandan Young ICT Students Welcomed at HUAWEI Office, Beijing
On Monday, 18 November 2019, Ambassador James Kimonyo accompanied by the Second Counselor attended the welcome reception of eight young graduates and students in ICT at Huawei office in Beijing.
The students are in China for a two-week program running from 15 to 30 November 2019.
The two-week program is part of the Rwanda Ministry of ICT and Innovation (MINICT) partnership with HUAWEI launched in 2017 through Seeds for the Future program, aiming at exposing young graduates and promising students in ICT through internships and job opportunities at the HUAWEI Headquarters in China.
Started last year, Seeds for the Future program has since benefited the young Rwandans in ICT. Speaking at the event Ambassador James Kimonyo appreciated the continued good relations between Rwanda and China and particularly HUWAWEI.
Ambassador Kimonyo hailed the HUAWEI initiative to support young students in ICT. “This program is critical for talent development in that it provides ample opportunity for young graduates and students in ICT to test their innovative ideas with the industry,” Ambassador noted.
In her welcoming remarks, Ms. Jacqueline Song, regional representative at Huawei Office expressed the continued cordial China-Rwanda relations and emphasized that the partnership is the result of both country agreements that are being implemented. She urged the students to use the short time they will spend in China to learn more from China’s technology achievements and apply them in their own situation.
