Rwandans and Friends of Rwanda China celebrate Umuganura
On 2nd August 2025, Rwandans and friends of Rwanda in China gathered in Wuhan, the capital of Hubei Province in central China to celebrate Umuganura, Rwanda’s National Harvest Day, under the theme: “The Source of Unity and Foundation for Self-Reliance”.
This year’s celebration was held on the sidelines of the ‘Meet Rwanda in China’, a flagship event designed to showcase Rwanda’s progress, with a main focus on the immense investment opportunities, promoting Made in Rwanda products, tourist attractions, and cultural exchanges.
The celebration served as a moment of reflection on achievements, renewal of long-term commitments, and a celebration of unity and patriotism deeply rooted in Rwandan values.
In his address, Rwanda’s Ambassador to China, James Kimonyo, emphasized that Umuganura is not only a time to share and celebrate accomplishments, but also to set goals for the coming year.
He called on Rwandans to uphold the values embodied in the festival, including hard work, unity, patriotism, and the rejection of divisionism.
The celebration featured traditional Rwandan meals, the symbolic serving of milk to children, recognition of outstanding students, and cultural performances, including the naming of cows, poetry, and cultural music.
The Rwandan Community cultural troupe in China, Ishyo, along with Rwandan artists including Intore Masamba and Kid from Kigali, entertained the participants with vibrant traditional music and dance.
The celebration also included Rwandan storytelling, ibisakuzo (riddles), and traditional games like igisoro, adding a dynamic and participatory element to the festivities.
Earlier in the day, a football tournament brought together teams composed of Rwandan community members from across China, aimed at strengthening unity and fostering community spirit.
